Dr. Mohammed Yeasin

Dr. Yeasin is an Associate Professor of the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, adjunct faculty member of Biomedical Engineering and Bioinformatics Program, and Institute for Intelligent Systems (IIS) at The University of Memphis (UofM). He is a senior member of IEEE. His main expertise are in the areas of Assistive Technology, Bioinformatics, Cognitive Science, Computer Vision, Data Science, and Perceptual User Interface. He is the recipient of the National Science Foundation Eraly career grant and other major NSF research grants.



Dr. Yeasin has been involved with many technological innovations, such as, ARIANA, ARIANA+, EmoAssist, Expression, FEPS, i-MAPS, face detection, classifying gender, age group, ethnicity, emotions, recognition of human activities in video, and speech-gesture enabled sophisticated human-computer interfaces. Videomining Inc. is using his works on facial image analysis and hand gesture in several commercial products.

Dr. Yeasin has been pioneering assistive technology solutions for people who are blind and visually impaired.He lead the development of systems (i.e., RMAP, EmoAssist, iMAP, FEPS and Expressions) to enhance quality of life of people with disability. Volunteers from the Clovernook center and Students Disability Services at the University of Memphis are evaluating these products.

Dr. Yeasin has 23 years of teaching experiences in well-reputed universities in the USA and Bangladesh. He understands and acknowledges the synergistic relationship between research, scholarly development and effectiveness in the classroom teaching. He has also served as a chair and member of many committees at the departme

nt/college and at the University. He is pioneering “diversity” in recruiting and retaining students.
